Headed to the wire
Kericho based Zoo FC is steadying up the log in the National Super League following its third consecutive win at the weekend, thanks to a 3-0 thrashing of visiting Mwatate United to move to fourth on the log with 33 points.
Zoo FC who have a match in hand, have made their Green Stadium home ground almost impenetrable and this has made them formidable in their quest for a second promotion to the top tier as the second leg of the Championship gathers momentum. Zoo have a +8 goal difference with nine wins in 20 matches. The team under the tutelage of coach Herman Iswekha, started the season badly after getting a promotion from Division One but have gotten a groove that has seen the club optimistic of maintaining the tempo to the end of the season.
Meanwhile third-placed Kibera Black Stars FC is also enjoying some rich vein of form lately and are currently also on 33 points. The slum-boys have two wins, two draws and a single loss in the past five matches. Paul Ogai who has been at the helm of the team for two months now, has brought about positive mentality in the club as they seek a maiden push to the promotion matrix. Black Stars at the weekend tied 0-0 with 11th placed Muhoroni Youth at Camp Toyoyo with their current goal difference +12 being one of the strongest in the League.
In another tight clash, second placed Fortune Sacco FC on 37 points, were stunned 1-0 by Vihiga United FC at Mumias Complex. Their inconsistencies in the past five matches has denied them a chance to be at the top ahead of current leaders APS Bomet FC. The Kirinyaga based side have won half (10/20) thus far this season and look poised to at least get a top two finish with a match in hand to their favor. Vihiga on their part are 10th on the log with 29 points in 20 matches with an impressive four wins coming off their last five matches played.
Elsewhere newcomers Naivas FC thumped fellow newbies SS Assad FC 4-0 at Camp Toyoyo Saturday to move to sixth on the table with 32 points as Coastal boys Assad are still in deep waters currently at 15th with 23 points. The retailers recovered brilliantly after two consecutive losses and are still in the hunt for at least a playoff slot. Assad on their part are staring at trouble with four losses in their last five matches what with a -12 goal difference currently.
