Kakamega Homeboyz revived their chances of winning the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League title after a 2-1 victory over KCB at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega yesterday.

Abana Abeingo, who are still leading the standings, called it rather late to subdue the stubborn KCB in a result which saw them bridge a three-point gap with their closest challengers Tusker who are placed in the second position in the chart.

Homeboyz’s advantage at the summit is even better after Tusker settled for a barren draw with Nairobi City Stars in Ruaraka.

Tusker coach Robert Matano rued wasted chances by his players despite the team dominating a huge chunk of the match.

“There was profligacy by my players in front of goal and this is not good for a team that is challenging for the title,’’

Three points

“I’m a bit disappointed since we were poised for all three points. We have no choice but go back to the drawing board and devise ways on how we shall win our remaining matches.,” he said.

Matano, while leaving the side-lines added: Obviously, it was not an easy match but all the same, we should blame ourselves for failure to bury the chances that came our way,”

On the flip side, Tusker face what appears an easy hurdle in their remaining matches against Nzoia Sugar, Bidco United and Posta Rangers and will be hoping to win all of them to be in a vantage position to challenge Homeboyz for the title.

Back in Kakamega, it was Homeboyz who showed hunger for an early goal in the and it duly came in the 16th minute when Congolese Yema Mwana fired a rocket shot past KCB goalkeeper.

The bankers would then level matters in the 34th minute before Homeboyz netted the winning goal in the81st minute through Mike Karamor moments after he was introduced for Stephen Wakanya.

At Sudi Stadium, visiting Wazito piled onto relegation woes of Nzoia Sugar by edging them 1-0.

After soaking in a flurry of attacks from Nzoia early in the match, Wazito caught their hosts on a counterattack when former Sony Sugar and Tusker midfielder Amos Asembeka found the back of the net with a low drive in the 32nd minute.

The defeat saw Nzoia drift into the fifteenth position-a relegation-zone-and will have to work hard in their remaining matches to avoid being lumped together with Vihiga United and the already discarded Mathare United who have missed three matches in a row.

Nzoia face an uphill task in their remaining matches against Tusker, KCB, Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards.
