Homeboyz secure the services of ‘Abawa’ and four others
Kakamega Homeboyz yesterday sealed the signing of five new players as part of the team’s restructuring ahead of the new season.
Homeboyz has also extended the contract of one of their inspiring stars Shami Mwinyi who has now been tied on a two-year contract as they consider him to be one of the key players to champion their campaign.
Speaking to People Sport, the club’s Team Manager Boniface Imbenzi revealed they had finalised deals with defender Sylvester Owino from Vihiga Bullets and forward Derick Onyango, from Kariobangi Sharks.
They also raided Western Stima for the services of three key players including veteran goalkeeper Samuel ‘Abawa’ Odhiambo and midfielders Brian Munyendo and Abdalla Shaberi.
Homeboyz has also welcomed back midfielder and dead balls specialist Eston Esiye who left them for Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) last season, and also cut short loan term of youthful forward Emmanuel Sotsi from neighbouring Nzoia Sugar fc.
“We are pleased to introduce these new players as one way of strengthening the team and also deepening the depth that is crucial for the expected tough league that is set to kick off in a few coming weeks.
“It’s good to complete the transfers early to give new players ample time to adapt to life and also understand the policy and system of play that will allow them to gel and this is very important for our strong start to the league,” said Imbenzi.
He also reiterated that the departure of speedy winger Peter Thiong’o to rivals AFC Leopards, defender Kennedy Onyango who joined newly promoted Nairobi City Stars and Ugandan shot-stopper Isaac Anzah who returned to his native home, will not in any way affect the performance of the team.
“At the moment the spirit within the playing unit is high as players are giving their best as they try to stamp their authority and secure positions in the first eleven and we are elated with this internal competition that will definitely yield good fruits for us,” he said.
