Homeboyz’s stalemate with Nairobi City Stars produces eight goals

Kakamega Homeboyz threw away a threegoal cushion to allow visiting Nairobi City Stars bounce back and force a 4-4 draw in a thrilling mid-week premier league encounter at the Bhukungu Stadium yesterday.

It was the first time immediate Homeboyz tactician Nicholas Muyoti was returning to the venue, this time with a different employer and the fixture pitted him against his former deputy, now the head coach, Benjamin Mwalala.

Inspiring David Okoth notched two penalties in the 24th and 53rd minute for Homeboyz as Brian Eshihanda and Moses Mudavadi netted two others in the 15th minute and 38th minute respectively.

It was the first time in the season that a match registered eight goals. Goals for City Stars came through Sven Yida in the 32nd minute,Timothy Ouma in the 40th minute, Eric Ombija strike in the 79th minute and a cool finish by Davis Agesa oin the 832rd minute as the home team who was leading 4-2 in the 75th minute, collapsed spectacularly in the last 10 minutes of regular time with woeful defending costing them.

However Homeboyz still lead the standings by five points after 15 rounds played as they stand top on 32 points against City Stars 27 points. Meanwhile, in a day that saw several red cards flashed, AFC Leopards came from the back in the second half to win 3-1 against strugglers Mathare United at the Nyayo Stadium.

The match was, however, marred by two late red cards after a scuffle in the dying minutes of the match with Ali Khalid and Collins Shivachi of Mathare and Ingwe respectively earning their matching orders in the 87th minute respectively.

David Otieno had scored in additional time of the first half to give the slum-boys an unlikely lead in the 46th minute to go into the break with a lead.However a resurgent Ingwe came guns blazing with three goals in 15 minutes.

Pin-point shot Washington Munene scored the equalizer in the 66thminute before Ojo Olaniyi Fasanmi gave Leopards their second in the 76th minute with a pin-point shot.

Five minutes later,Peter Thion’go put a lid on things to ensure Ingwe picked full points to move one place to 13thin the log with 17 points. At Ruaraka Grounds,Tusker Coach Robert Matano got a reprieve after weeks of speculation about his job.

The Brewers finally put a smile on Matano’s face with a 2-0 win against bottom side Vihiga Bullets FC with goals courtesy of Rogers Ouma in the 39th minute and John Njuguna in the 63rd minute. This win pushes the defending Champions to 11th on the log with 19 points.
