Ingwe to challenge for title: Shikanda
AFC Leopards Chairman Dan Shikanda has vowed that during his reign as the boss of the former Kenya Premier League champions, the Big Cats will lift the title after more than two decades.
Shikanda, who came into office two years ago with a vow to transform the oldest club in the country, is convinced he has the squad to get the job done.
Ingwe stand third on the log with 29 points with two matches over the current league leaders who are on 36 points.
The former footballer, who had the unique opportunity of playing for both AFC Leopards and rivals Gor Mahia, has stated that he has the vision to take the club back to its glory days with proper structures, investment and purpose.
Personal target
“I have a good idea where we want to go. It is possible and practical so I am convinced this club can return to its fierce days.
When you look, our current squad is balanced and sharp so I know what I am talking about.
It is my desire that during my time in office, we can win the championship.
I also believe with our partners we can be able to build a stadium for our great club.
It is about believing and making an effort, something this office will strive to do,” said Shikanda who spoke to People Sport at the weekend.
He commended the government for allowing sports to resume after a forced Covid-19 break.
Meanwhile, club forward Elvis Rupia who is currently second on the scorers log with 11 goals agrees with his chairman that it is time for Ingwe to get the title.
“We can do it because we have a good team and a great visionary coach. I have my own personal target but ultimately we need to win the championship so our fans can have something to smile about.”
