The good run by Kakamega Homeboyz in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) has been attributed to hard work and discipline from the playing unit.

Homeboyz has assembled unheralded players who remained at the top of the league chart for a lengthy time with pundits tipping them to clinch the title.

Speaking from Kakamega, the club’s chairman Cleophas “Toto” Shimanyula rubbished claims that they were being given preferential treatment, hence their current status. In retrospect, Shimanyula said it is Homeboyz who have been victims of partial ruling by referees in some of their fixtures. The chairman revealed that he was surprised by the allegations and stated that it is his club that feels being treated unfairly by the so called match officials.

“We resolved to invest in youth and not necessarily big names to build a team for the future. We are happy things are working according to our plans,” he said.

“We shall not allow some individuals with hidden agenda to soil the good name of the club. They should desist from peddling lies that are aimed at portraying our club in bad light,”

He urged the players to maintain the fighting spirit and not allow themselves to be distracted by a few individuals who are out to ruin the party.

“We still have a number of matches remaining and the idea is to remain focused as we pursue our goal,”.

Shimanyula further thanked the fans as well as sponsors who have played a major role in motivating the players.

Homeboyz who have accumulated 49 points from 23 matches have only lost twice and are hoping to build on the good run to win the league title for the first time.
