Sirikwa Classic champion Charles Katul has turned his focus to Athletics Kenya (AK) track and field athletics trials for the World Athletics championships.

Katul is optimistic that he will make it to the Kenyan team for the world championships in Budapest, Hungary.

He will start his journey to secure a slot in 10,000m during the second AK trials in Nairobi on 24th February at Nyayo stadium.

“I’m ready to represent my country in the world championships, I will launch my campaign for the slot in Nairobi during the trials,” said Katul.

National Cross Country winner Katul said that he has started the athletic season with good tides, after winning the second edition of Sirikwa Classic of the World Cross Country Tour-Gold in Eldoret, a scintillating win clocking 30.19.6 ahead of Josphat Kiprotich timed 30.25.

Katul who hails from West Pokot County has been training in Iten, Elgeyo-Marakwet County under coach Daniel Ng’etich.

He was full of praise for his coach saying he has helped him tremendously to reach the stage he is now.

“My coach has really helped me a lot in my training and encouragement to where I am,” said Katul.

However, he missed the opportunity to represent the country in the World Athletic Cross Country that will be held on February 18th in Bathurst, Australia, after finishing in ninth place in trials last year December.
