KCB, Sharks lead charge after six rounds of action

After six rounds of pulsating action in the BetKing Premier League, the trio of KCB FC and Kariobangi Sharks alongside Tusker is taking charge of proceedings in the standings.
Resuming from a near 10-day Christmas break, six matches were played this past weekend as the much-awaited Mashemeji Derby that was slated for Sunday was postponed to allow for Gor Mahia to prepare for the return leg of the CAF Champions League match against Algerian side CR Belouizdad.
Only seven goals were scored but the Bankers still lead the standings with a clean record of 15 points off five matches.
KCB whose last piece of action was on December 18 where they beat hosts Bandari FC 2-1 away at Mbaraki Grounds have however a match in hand over their challengers at the moment as they had a break this past weekend.
Kariobangi Sharks on their part have 12 points off six matches with three wins to their name.
Now on second place, the Slum Boys are on a roll especially through their top scorer and Captain Eric Kapaito who has seven goals in this campaign.
However, this weekend they were forced to a goalless draw against Ulinzi Stars at Kasarani Stadium despite having good spells on the opponents’ side.
They have drawn thrice but not lost a match as well with 10 goals scored in their favour against four conceded.
Tusker FC who prior to this weekend had gone on a three match winning streak had to settle for a 1-1 against a stubborn Sofapaka FC.
The draw means the Brewers are on 11 points and third on the log with coach Robert Matano hoping to end their five-year trophy drought.
Tusker have three wins, two draws and 1 loss so far in this 2020/21 season with their main advantage being they have played all three former champions in the shape of AFC Leopards, Gor Mahia and Sofapaka with four points picked in those matches.
Meanwhile, defending champions Gor Mahia who have four matches in hand have not played domestic football since December 18 when they lost 1-2 to Tusker are on three points and 14th on the table.
In what is turning out to be a difficult season on and off the pitch, 19-time champions K’Ogalo could have to wait for the weekend for their next tie with no coach confirmed for domestic games after Patrick Odhiambo left the club.
Their sworn rivals Ingwe are fourth on the log with nine points after three wins and one loss off four matches and also seeking to take over the mantle for the first time since 1998.
The 12-time champions are also showing their mettle especially through rejuvenated forward Elvis Rupiah who has six goals to his name.
