The 41st edition of Kenya Communications Sports Organisation (KECOSO) games kick off in Kericho County this week after a two-year break due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The games were last held in 2019 in Kisii County before being suspended due to the Covid-19 that paralysed sports and other sectors across the globe.

Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru (pictured) announced in Kericho County at the weekend that the games are resuming this week.

He made the remarks at the Kericho Golf Club during the KECOSO Golf Tournament sponsored by the Communications Authority of Kenya (CAK) which was a curtain raiser for the main games.

Mucheru emphasised the importance of institutions coming together in sporting activities since it helps create synergy besides being a health benefit to the participants.

“Government is committed to ensuring sports is taken to the next level. So, we are supporting all including institutions to engage in as many sports activities as they can,” Mucheru added.

He expressed his pleased after the resumption of the games where about 14 organisations are participating in this year’s KECOSO Games.

The CS said sports unites the people away from politics, just the same way Kenyans are excited about the World Athletics Championships going on in Oregon where Kenyan athletes are expected to do well.

Secretary KECOSO Secretary-General Omole Asiko said a total of 120 players participated in the golf tournament.

He said the main games will commence on 24th July, which will include; football, athletics, basketball, volleyball, netball, table tennis and snooker among others.
