Kenya Lionesses squad for inaugural World Rugby WXV 3 named
The Kenya Lionesses squad for the inaugural World Rugby WXV 3 showdown has been named.
Kenya Rugby Union confirmed the players who have been included in the fifteens' team on Tuesday, October 3, 2024.
The competition has been programmed to run from October 14, 2023, at the Seven Stadium in Dubai.
With high hopes expected for the women's national side, they will start the tournament with a match against Spain.
On the first day, a high-octane encounter is expected when the Oceanian giants Fiji take on Colombia, while Ireland are set to battle Kazakhstan on October 14.
On the second day, Lionesses will be up against Kazakhstan before Fiji face another remarkable Spanish side on October 20.
The tournament will conclude on October 27, with Fiji taking on Kazakhstan while Kenya battle Colombia.
The World Rugby WXV 3 is a three-tier global women's international 15s competition that is designed to redefine the landscape of women's rugby on a global scale.
Lionesses recent outing
Meanwhile, the Lionesses were recently in action as they were on a tour of South Africa, where they were defeated 22-17 by the San Clemente Rhinos at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town on Saturday, September 23, 2023.
Kenya took the lead when Rose Otieno scored a try, which was converted by Diana Omosso, just three minutes into the game.
In the 12th minute, Grace Okulu saw the scoreline extended to 10-0 before Lisa Egberts touched down as the first half ended 10-5.
Omosso's effort saw Lionesses' lead extend to 17-5 before Rhino's resurgence saw the lead wipe out.
Salome Lewis pounced on the ball and ensured the deficit was reduced to 17-10 before Sophia Lavier and Christian Britan's conversion tied up the score.
A Lewis score at the death ensured Kenya were defeated as Rhinos claimed a victory thanks to their commendable comeback.
