Kenya Table Tennis Federation chairman Mudibo to run for NOC-K post in upcoming polls

Kenya Table Tennis Federation chairman Andrew Mudibo has become the first candidate to officially declare his interest for an elective post when the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) goes to polls on November 12 this year.

Mudibo will be going for the secretary-general position after the dates for the elections were disclosed last Friday  during an extraordinary general assembly that was held in Nairobi.

Mudobo says Kenya’s Olympic body must work towards incorporating all its affiliates in developing leadership skills.

“Inclusiveness of federation leaders to youth by the committee is a priority if we are to strengthen the local Olympic movement,” said Mudibo.

Even with three federations, Badminton Kenya (BK), Kenya Squash Federation (KSF) and Kenya Golf Union (KGU) are likely to be  locked out of the polls owing various reasons, Mudibo thinks otherwise.

“We need to move away from individual block voting to voting for change to regain our lost glory in major games and this calls for inclusiveness of everyone and not a team of 13 officials,” he added.

The extra ordinary general assembly also ratified the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as the body that will preside over the elections.

Registrar regulations

“It’s our wish to have all our 26 affiliates take part in the electoral process since all have been active but we have to comply with laws,” said NOC-K acting secretary general Mutuku.

“We shall now inform the Registrar on the expected date of the elections with a 28-day notice as per the Rule 20.2(d) Sports Registrar Regulations 2016,” said Mutuku.

Mutuku said the nomination process will kick off with those aspiring to contest for various positions collecting the nomination forms from the NOC-K offices immediately after circulation of notice.

All those intending to vie for positions will be required to return the forms 14 days before the election date and the list of eligible candidates will be circulated seven days before the election.

An observer and the returning officer will be required to submit a credibility report to the Sports Registrar within seven days after the election on November 19.
