Kenya U20 match day squad named ahead of Namibia encounter

Simon Jawichre has unveiled the Kenya U20 team set to take on Namibia in their opening match of the 2024 Barthes U20 Trophy tournament.

The squad arrived in Harare on Thursday, conducted their Captain’s run on Friday afternoon, and is now primed for kick-off on Saturday at 3:00 pm EAT.

The starting lineup features Darrel Oluoch, Bramwel Anekea, and Geylord Ngasi in the front row, while Eugene Etale and Andycole Omolo lock down the second row.

Captain Edmond Omondi leads the loose forwards, alongside Nathan Tsindoli and Iddo Kuta.

Scrumhalf duties fall to Patrick Wainaina, who partners with flyhalf Jackson Siketi to orchestrate the link between forwards and backs.

The back three sees Alvin Khavoli and James Olela on the wings, with Eugene Ojiambo securing the fullback position.

Michael Wamalwa and Daniel Kipchirchir form a solid center pairing.

On the bench, Brian Shile, Ian Nyandusi, and Hafidh Mohammed await their chance in the front row, joined by Clein Okumbi, Willy Tino, Benadict Muiruri, Faran Juma, and Philip Okeyo.

Kenya U20 returning player

With eight out of nine Chipu players from last year's squad included, anticipation is high for the clash against Namibia.

The match will be officiated by Stephan Geldenhuys, with Precious Pazani and Ronald Wutimber serving as assistant referees.

The winner of the tournament will secure qualification for the 2024 World Rugby U20 Trophy, the fourteenth edition of the second-tier age-grade rugby competition.

This year, the tournament will be held in Scotland for the first time, specifically at the 7,800-capacity Edinburgh Rugby Stadium in Edinburgh.
