Kenya Swimming Federation (KSF) is planning to take 30 swimmers to next month’s Cana Zone 4 Championships in Lusaka, Zambia. The Kenyan team will be trimmed from the current provisional squad of 48 that was selected during the KSF national championships at Kasarani Aquatic Stadium over a week ago.

County swimming caucus chairman Kenneth Karani said the swimmers will train for the next three weeks before their departure to Zambia.

Nine counties graced the two-day event including hosts Nairobi, Kajiado, Uasin Gishu, Kisumu, Nakuru, Machakos, Kiambu, Mombasa and Kilifi.

“It was a highly successful championship. New talents are being unearthed in the country and we thank the counties for sending their swimmers to the championships.  We will have more in the months to come,” Karani said.

Karani expressed confidence that the swimmers who will get the nod to compete at the Cana Zone 4 championships will do the country proud.

“We have a good crop of swimmers and I believe they will do the country proud,” he observed.

Meanwhile, Karani has asked Sports Dispute Tribunal chairman John Ohaga, who attended the championship, to ensure that the management of the sport is cleaned up by first having elections and ensuring the swimmers get a chance to compete.
