Kenyatta University reign supreme at varsities game extravaganza

Kenyatta University dominated the Kenya Universities Sports Federations (KUSF) games held at Pwani University in Kilifi County over the weekend.


The University was declared winner after scooping a total of 12 medals, six gold, 0ne silver and five bronze to top the medal standings ahead of rivals Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) who ranked second with three gold and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology secured third with 10 medals, 2gold,2 silver and 6 bronze.


Mt. Kenya University and Meru university were forth with 4 medals, two gold, one silver and one bronze while United States International University-Africa (USIU) who finished fifth had three medals, two gold and one silver.


In swimming, USIU won gold both men and women. Kenyatta University settled for silver while Strathmore University won bronze.


In Rugby men, Moi University won gold ahead of Technical University of Mombasa in second position. Kisii University won bronze while for Women Muranga university won gold after beating Meru university. Rongo University secured bronze.


The event consists of 31 disciplines in both the men and women categories including, swimming, basketball volleyball taekwondo and karate.


Others are chess, badminton, scrable, Darts, table tennis, rugby 7s, basketball 3x3, Hockey, Frisbee, woodball and roll ball.


Addressing journalist after the event at Pwani University, Kenya University Sports Federation head of technical team Edwin Oduor, thanked all participants for exhibiting a high sense of discipline and sportsmanship throughout the competitions.


“I am proud of these young sportsmen and women, this achievement has been solemnly gained through hard work in training, consistency, team work and mostly importantly by God’s grace,” he said.
He urged students to embrace e-sports to enhance problem solving skills and strategic thinking.
He highlighted that e-sport has several advantages over physical sport in that they are open to all regardless of physical abilities.


“The e-sport is very important in today’s world because it open up career opportunities in game development and event management,” said Oduor.


Oduor further said most of the players were affected by weather.
