Kenyan footballer Kibunguchy takes ownership role at Scottish club Brave FC

Kenyan footballer Nabilai Kibunguchy has taken an ownership role at the Scottish Club Caledonian Braves FC, as confirmed by the club itself.

Caledonian Braves FC announced that Kibunguchy, who currently plays for the USA-based club Orlando City B, has become a part of their ownership group. However, the exact extent of his ownership stake was not disclosed.

The club made the announcement, inviting others to join their expanding ownership group, with a statement saying, "Pro footballer Nabi_K18 of Orlando City B has joined our ever-growing ownership group, and you can too."

Kibunguchy expressed his aspirations as an investor, stating his hopes for the club to ascend to the top division. He emphasized his lifelong connection to football and his eagerness to contribute.

"I have played football since age 5 and it has always been part of my life! I am currently a pro footballer here in the USA and came across this opportunity and loved everything about it!

"I hope the club can grow and make it to the top division, and I can't wait to be a part of this club as an investor and a fan," he stated.

In a separate statement, Kibunguchy expressed his delight at becoming a part owner of the fifth division-based club, describing the Caledonian Braves FC as a club with a compelling vision for the future.

"I am happy and blessed to become a part owner of The Braves FC. They currently play in the 5th division in the Scottish Football League System! They have a great vision, and I hope to see continued growth on and off the field in the near future," he shared.

Kibunguchy's soccer career includes a stint with the Sacramento Republic from 2015 to 2016, where he made 30 appearances and scored one goal.

In his college years, Kibunguchy played college soccer for the University of California, Davis, from 2016 to 2019. He amassed 52 appearances, scoring 3 goals, and providing 2 assists.

His college achievements include being named to the All-Big West Conference First Team, Big West All-Freshman Team, and Big West Conference All-Academic Team in 2017, as well as earning spots on the United Soccer Coaches All-Far West Region Second Team and All-Big West Conference First Team in 2019.

In 2019, Kibunguchy also had an appearance in the USL League Two with the San Francisco Glens, earning recognition as part of the Western Conference All-Star Team.

His professional journey saw him selected as the 18th overall pick in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft by Minnesota United on January 21, 2021.

He officially joined the team on April 3, 2021. Later, on May 27, 2021, Kibunguchy went on loan to the USL Championship side Sacramento Republic for the remainder of the 2021 season. Following the 2022 season, Minnesota declined his contract option, and he subsequently signed with Orlando City B in MLS Next Pro for the 2023 season.
