Kibwana eyes top-three finish as Tusker come calling
With three games left to the end of this season's Kenya Premier League, Kakamega Homeboyz talisman Shami Kibwana is optimistic that his fine form will be replicated in the remaining KPL fixtures.
Kakamega Homeboyz are scheduled to play Tusker FC in a mouth-watering fixture with both teams in need of the three points and Kibwana could not be happier with the challenge ahead.
A win for the Nicholas Muyoti coached side will see them go up to third position with 46 points and hope Leopards, Bandari and City Stars falter in their upcoming fixtures.
Kibwana has been impressive for the Kakamega-based side, scooping four consecutive Man-of-the-Match awards before going on to score seven goals in a span of four games.
The talented forward in an interview with K24 Digital says it’s just the beginning of greater things ahead as he eyes to finish the season on a high note.
“I'm delighted and feeling tremendously blissful, but I know it's a collective effort from the team that has pushed us this far," Kibwana said.
Despite the recent heroics for his side, Kibwana narrates how a horrific injury, to his achilles and a fracture on his shoulder during a morning run, hindered him from kicking off the season on a high note.
However, that did not deter his aspirations of returning to the field and showcasing his talent despite the physical scars.
The former Thika United KCB and AFC Leopards player also re-counted about his recovery, the people who have helped him along the way and those he now hopes to inspire in the near future.
“It was traumatizing for me because we had just come from the uncertain times of the pandemic eager to play again then I tore my Achilles and a fractured shoulder, but thankfully the coach was patient with me hence the inspiration,” Kibwana said.
Kibwana also took the opportunity to illuminate how it’s refreshing to play alongside his captain and former Kenya International Allan Wanga who is the current captain of the Nicholas Muyoti coached side.
“It's been an honour playing alongside the captain since we get to challenge ourselves because Wanga takes pride in providing goals for those playing alongside him like me. He cares far more about the team's success as a whole than his own individual statistics,” Kibwana said.
The Kakamega-based team is currently placed seventh in the 18 team Kenya Premier League log after 29 rounds of play, garnering 43 points on their way, courtesy of Kibwana’s four goals in two games.
Other games slated for today include Ulinzi Stars hosting AFC Leopards, with Gor Mahia taking on Thika-based Bidco United.
