Kipchoge quietly returns home after writing historic run
Athletics Kenya (AK) officials are planning a reception for world marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge, next week at Riadha House.
AK boss Jack Tuwei revealed yesterday morning hours after Kipchoge jetted back into the country aboard Kenya Airways.
Kipchoge made the quiet return three days after his historic fete at the INEOS Challenge in Vienna, Austria where he clocked the historic 1:59.40.
“We are planning something special for Eliud. We could be able to do it today because the Eliud requested he be given some time to rest. He will be here for a proper welcome from us as well an interaction with the media,” he said.
Unlike when departing for Vienna last week aboard a private jet hired by James Ratcliffe - the brains behind the time challenge, his return was humble, befitting the athlete’s known stature.
“He achieved what many thought was absolutely impossible. His ‘no human is limited’ slogan will inspire many people for generations to come,” Tuwei said.
Meanwhile AK is once again preparing for an athletes seminar next month that will focus on doping and investment next month in Nairobi.
Tuwei said just like the last seminar held in Nairobi last year, the federation is targeting more numbers where athletes will be reminded to take personal initiative when it comes to matters investments.
“ AK will educate athletes on career development, with retired athletes who are now professionals in other fields expected to give talks on planning for life after retirement. We shall not tire on the cancer of doping that has continued to plague the athletes.
“ We shall invite professionals enlighten young athletes on the importance of education and how to handle their careers till retirement.
There are also legal issues affecting athletes especially when entering into contracts with agents,” said Tuwei.
