K’Ogalo seal temporary Pamzo deal
Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia have officially entered into a mutual agreement with Posta Rangers coach Sammy “Pamzo” Omollo (pictured) to oversee the team in the forthcoming Africa Champions League clash against APR of Rwanda on Saturday.
In an interview with People Sport, Gor Chairman Ambrose Rachier made it clear that the team has consulted with Rangers to have Omollo temporarily on board while they sort out expatriate trainer’s Roberto Oliveira Goncalves papers which are currently not acceptable by Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Asked if there will be a possibility of a conflict of interest when Gor comes up against Rangers in the league front, Rachier answered in the negative.
“Football tactics keep changing and I don’t think that can have a problem when we eventually meet Posta Rangers in the league with Omollo and Oliveira at opposite sides, furthermore, Omollo’s contract is in short term before we sort out Oliveira’s issue,” said Rachier.
The Gor boss said he was overwhelmed by the big number of qualified trainers who wanted to briefly handle the team, adding that the management finally settled on Omollo for good reasons.
“Gor has played Rangers several times in friendlies and Omollo should be in a position to know the weak and strong points of the team as it prepares to face APR,” said Rachier.
He further conceded that Gor has not yet remitted Sh 100,000 affiliation fee to Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to bring on board an expatriate coach and said that would be done before the local premier league kicks off. Meanhwile, Gavin Hunt-coached Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa will be under enormous pressure to succeed when the 2021 CAF Champions League kicks off this week with 22 preliminary-round first legs.
It will be the sixth appearance in the elite competition by a club that have never delivered results to match boasts by officials that they are among the giants of Africa.
Chiefs have yet to progress beyond the qualifying stage, leaving many pundits questioning how seriously their players take participation in the Champions League.
Hunt also has a lot to prove having regularly flopped in the competition.
