Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and Equity Bank La- dies teams were the teams to beat at the weekend during the Kenya National Basketball Premier League championships held at the weekend.

Equity Hawks in particular showed their ruthless streak Sunday following a 121-32 demolition over Kenyatta University Oryx in a one sid- ed encounter. Ben Oluoch's side was super aggressive and ran the court leaving the University side lost on purpose. Valery Kemunto was the toss of the match with

37 points including four rebounds and three assists. At the same time, she converted 16 off 23 two-pointer shots while averaging 83.3% on free throws overall. The other players on the board for the Hawks were Betty Kananu on 15 points and Rita Onyango on 13 points.

Meanwhile, the KPA Ladies side also had big ideas as they ran riot over Storms in a 103-36 thumping at the Makande Gymnasium in Mombasa. Save for the third quarter, the Dockers under Anthony Ojukwu were dominant as they absolutely enjoyed home-court advantage. The defending

Champions KPA took control with a 27-13 deserved lead following a series of mistakes by Storms who seemed not to defend well.

In another Ladies' contest, the University of Nairobi Dyna- mites silenced Kenyatta University Oryx 53-19 in a derby. The game played Saturday at Ulinzi Sports Complex was full of flair and power, especially from the eventual winners Dynamites. Susan Jepleting and Quinta Ogutu led the charge on the court with their excellent performance on and off the ball as Oryx seemed effectively shut out. Ruth Omondi was also handy in offering defensive

cover and claiming rebound plays for Dynamites. As for the KU team under the tutelage of Caleb Osewe, it was a lesson outside of the classroom as their contemporaries proved much of a tormentor.

The Men's contest at the weekend was also in full force with defending Champions Kenya Ports Authority getting the better of Umoja Basketball Club 77-61 in a nearly close affair. The home team dictated the pace of play for most of the game as they led comfortably for the opening three quarters before letting it slip in the last quarter.

In another duel, UON Ter- or proved too sleek for their Africa Nazarene University counterparts in a 63-44 win. Terror under Coach Eugene Genga did their homework well and had Bior Achor and Jacob Ali combining for 24 points in the physical encounter that had lots of running on the court.

Elsewhere Ulinzi bossed Kenyatta University Pirates with a clinical 84-47 result at Ulinzi Complex Bernard Mufutu's men had all the hallmarks of Championship material with the duo of Joseph Owino and Churchill Odhiambo combining for 30 of the overall points scored.
