KPL, NSL transfer deadline extended
Kenyan Premier League and National Super League clubs have a chance of further replenishing their squads after Football Kenya Federation extended the primary registration and transfer period initially slated for November 2.
The clubs have three days to shop for new players as the window will now close on Friday at exactly 5pm.
According to FKF, the registration and transfer window of the club that retains its position or gains promotion into the FKF PL has, moreover, been extended to November 13.
In a communiqué, FKF stated that the international transfers concluded on November 2 as had been initially scheduled.
The top-tier FKF PL is tentatively scheduled to kick off on November 21 with draft fixtures having already been released.
In the meantime, the league’s defending champions Gor Mahia are training in different parts of the country with local teams in preparation for the forthcoming season.
Gor toured Murang’a at the weekend to train with Murang’a Combined who they beat 4-0.
Sydney Ochieng’ scored a brace as Burundian Jules Ulimwengu and Andrew Malisero helped themselves to a goal each.
K’ogalo wound up the tour of the central Kenyan town by dispatching National Super League side Murang’a Seal 2-1.
The KPL Cup holders, who are Kenya’s emissaries in the CAF Champions League as well as the Cecafa Kagame Cup, are expected to take advantage of the extension of the transfer period to sign new players.
Impeccable reports at the Gor camp indicate that the teams are eyeing two midfielders and a defender during that period especially after losing Lawrence Juma and Wellington Ochieng to Sofapaka and Tusker respectively.
Some of the new signings at Gor include Malawian Andrew Malisero Numero, Benson Omalla who was sourced from Western Stima, midfielder Sydney Ochieng, goalkeeper Samuel Njau, and defender Kelvin Wesonga from Western Stima, Cameroonian midfielder Bertrand Konfor, John Macharia, Ulimwengu formerly of Rwandan side Rayon Sports and Ochieng from Chemelil Sugar.
In a related development, AFC Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda said the signing of new players is at the discretion of newly-hired coach Thomas Trucha.
Before the extension by the federation, Ingwe signed new players among them Harambee Stars new captain Peter Thiong’o from Kakamega Homeboyz and Harrison Mwendwa who was lured from Kariobangi Sharks.
