Lionesses roar
Kenya women’s sevens rugby team, the Lionesses, topped the Africa Solidarity Camp in Tunis, Tunisia, after six wins to convince head coach Felix Oloo the team model is taking shape ahead of the Tokyo Olympics.
“It is a good blend of the upcoming players and regular players. For sure, the team model is coming into shape but we would love it to go a notch higher with efficiency and the much needed intensity.
We are working hard off the ball and not over thinking and rather react to what’s taking place,” Oloo told People Sport after a perfect Day Two where Lionesses only conceded two tries in four matches.
Kenya is now placed first in the six-team competition held at the Maison du Rugby grounds where Madagascar also disrespected the hosts to settle for second place to force Tunisia to sit third place after the first round of the two-legged competition-cum-training festival.
After mixed results on Day One where Lionesses A lost two matches in the round robin competition while Lionesses B won both matches, coach Oloo took note of how the defense in open plays needed improvement.
“On Day One, our kick offs and attack off set pieces had also improved greatly so it was just defense off open plays and on Day Two we executed well,” said Oloo.
