Local golfers in search of Magical Kenya Open slots
Muthaiga’s Greg Snow heads to the final round of the opening leg of the Safari Tour series at the par 72 Limuru Country Club with a one shot lead as the race for next year’s Magical Kenya Open slots begins.
Snow started the third round in second place behind club mate Ganeev Giddie at two under par 142.
He picked birdies at the second, eighth and ninth holes to cross to the back nine on level par.
He made two birdies at the back nine and missed a close one at the 18th to finish on one over par 73 and three rounds total of one under par 215.
“The course is generally playing well save my three putting today but I will try and be a bit aggressive in the final round.
I must, however, say the long wait for competitive golf since March has not done us any good,’’ said Snow.
Robinson Owiti tees off for the final round in second place after returning one over par 73 in the third round for a total of level par total of 216. He tied with club-mate Mathew Omondi.
“I had some trouble on the greens. Some of the pin positions were difficult to approach and no matter how close one is on the green, there was no guarantee of a birdie,’’ Owiti said.
Omondi on the other hand, shot level par, while Golf Park’s David Wakhu finished fourth, after a one over par 73 for three rounds total of one over par 217.
Unlike the first and second round, only one player Frank Matilo managed an under par (71), an indication of how tough the pins were placed in the third round.
The field of 21 players who made it to the money list will be off at 7am with the leaders Snow, Omondi and Owiti expected to tee off at 8am.
