William Malui sank in six goals as Kenya Handball Federation (KHF) men’s league defending champions National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) defeated hard-fighting Ulinzi 29-28 to inch closer to retaining their league title.

The win ensured that NCPB maintained their top position in the league with 32 points from 16 matches out of 17 played and one away from completing their regular league campaign.

“Having come this far, Ulinzi was our biggest challenge to finishing top, and we’re happy we beat them. We vowed that they must fall because it was a league decider of some sort for us. We remained focused and grounded despite the pressure, and we’re thrilled to carry the day,” excited NCPB team captain Timothy Kirimi told People Sport.

In the match which was played at Nyayo National Stadium Handball Court, reigning champions led 16-13 at halftime but Ulinzi came out strong in the second half with a 15-13 victory.

It was, however, not enough as NCPB held on to emerge 29-28 winners.

Meanwhile, Kenyatta University’s quest to finish in the top six and seal the remaining slot for the league post-match playoffs got a big boost after Gunners failed to turn up for the match, handing them a crucial 15-0 walkover.  The  win takes them to 22 points, a point shy of sixth-placed Buccaneers (23).
