Marathon runner Eunice Chepkemei has called upon Athletics Kenya to support children with athletics talents across the country, in a bid to take the sport a notch higher.

Chepkemei who was speaking to People Sport at the Kapkatet Stadium in Bureti after her morning training, observed that there is massive untapped talent among young people in primary and secondary schools who require support to develop their talents.

The athlete appealed to the local leaders at both county and national levels, together with sports administrators to assist such children to realise and develop such talents.

“These youngsters require support for them to develop their talents and realise their dreams. Some are very good in athletics but fail to go anywhere due to lack of support.

If the trend continues, it will definitely deal a huge blow to athletics in Kenya,” Chepkemei said. She noted that the youngsters need to be assisted to hone their athletics skills and also to showcase their talents in order to achieve sports development.

“There’s need for resources to properly support this course. Sports is one of the key sectors of economy in the country besides placing the country in the world’s map”, said Chepkemei who has participated in various marathons such as in Brazil, China and recently in Machakos.
