Marube elated after being named in Dubai Sevens travelling squad

Impala Saracens fast rising speedy winger Alvin Marube is elated after being named in the Kenya Sevens national team also known as Shujaa ahead of their Dubai Sevens assignment in Dubai.

Marube expressed his desire of becoming a regular in the Shujaa squad and reiterated his excellent performance for his club and dedication to the game was the catalyst behind his call-up to Shujaa’s squad again.

“It is a privilege to have been called up, it has not been easy; blood, sweat and hard work has been my drive, and now I need to work hard and show that I merit being there as I seek to be a regular in the national team,” Marube said.

In an Interview with People Daily Digital, Marube was thrilled by the prospects of donning the Shujaa jersey.

“Another God given opportunity to Go out there and represent everyone who believes in us, our country, ourselves, our families and everyone else who supports us in all kinds,” Marube said.

Kabras RFC Kevin Wekesa and Tony Omondi of Mwamba RFC are also be in the travelling squad after being called up to the Kenya Sevens squad ahead of the Dubai Sevens slated for next weekend.

Wekesa was in superb form for Shujaa in the just concluded Safari Sevens with his powerful runs towards the defence, while Omondi has had exemplary training sessions with Impala's utility Edward Anya making a return after a three-year absence.

Nakuru RFC winger Nelson Oyoo will captain the side that also includes the likes of KCB RFC duo of Alvin Otieno, Johnstone Olindi and Kenya Harlequins forward Herman Humwa.

However, Shujaa will miss the services of notable faces legendary Collins Injera and Willy Ambaka who will not feature in the Dubai series leg.

The Innocent Simiyu side are set to face Olympic bronze medallists Argentina, Mike Friday’s coached side USA and Spain in Pool 'B' of the Dubai sevens.

Shujaa will depart tomorrow morning and will have four days to familiarise with the climate and the playing fields before their day one kick off on Friday against a familiar foe, USA.

They will thereafter play Argentina and close their preliminaries with a tie against the Spanish, with the top two teams in each pool advancing to the quarters.

The HSBC sevens series core teams consists of 16 men teams which are Argentina, Australia, Canada, England, Fiji, France, Ireland, Japan, Kenya, New Zealand, Samoa, Scotland, South Africa, Spain, USA and Wales.
