Mathare to have private coronavirus tests

Former Kenyan Premier League champions Mathare United have made private arrangements to have their players tested for Covid 19 after they were excluded in the players and officials tests that began yesterday organised by Football Kenya Federation (FKF).
According to a senior Mathare United official who sought anonymity, the team would take the players to a government facility today to be tested so that they meet the requirements and be ready for the league kick-off.
Reigning champions Gor Mahia, Ulinzi Stars and Zoo FC are also expected to follow suit since they have not been considered by the federation.
The four clubs are believed to be the only ones that have not signed an undertaking with the FKF Premier League.
“Since we were victimised by the federation for having a stand on the way the league should be operated, we will take our players to a government facility for the Covid 19 tests, pay the bills then take the bill to the federation for refund,” said the official.
Meanwhile, the exercise began yesterday at different venues and is expected to continue tomorrow before all the results are received by Friday.
Yesterday, the tests were conducted on Bidco United players at Thika Stadium, while Kariobangi Sharks, KCB and Sofapaka players and all their officials had their tests done at the Utalii grounds.
Today Kakamega Homeboyz players will be tested at Bukhungu Stadium from 9am, while Wazito will have samples of their playing unit taken at Marist University college, Tusker at Utalii grounds, Bandari at Mbaraki grounds and Nzoia Sugar at Sudi Stadium.
