Lionel Messi is preparing to make his debut with Paris Saint-Germain, which is expected to take place on Sunday at 19:45 BST away to Reims.

The Argentine has been training for a couple of weeks with his new teammates, but the idea is to give him half an hour of playing time in the second half of PSG's upcoming match.

Despite this being the coaching staff's idea, Messi's desire to play and Mbappé's potential absence could force Mauricio Pochettino to shuffle his deck.

Soon after the game, Messi will board a flight to Buenos Aires to join Argentina for their upcoming World Cup Qualifiers against Venezuela, Brazil and Bolivia.

Serie A, LaLiga and the Premier League rejected the deal to let their internationals travel to South America, while Ligue 1 protested against CONMEBOL's congested schedule but let the players join their national teams.

PSG have recorded three wins from three to kick off the season on a high note, propelling the Mauricio Pochettino coached side to top of Ligue 1 and going from strength to strength, despite the absence of players like Messi and Neymar.

Nevertheless, it seems that the rich are going to get richer with the return of these two players, while new signing Gianluigi Donnarumma was able to be on the bench for last Friday's 4-2 win at Brest.

While Achraf Hakimi and Georginio Wijnaldum have played in all three of PSG's league matches to this point after joining in the summer, Donnarumma and Messi are yet to feature for their new club.

Sergio Ramos, another summer addition that is yet to make his PSG debut, is not expected to be available until after the international break.

The unfortunate players attempting to intercept the ball will have surely had their work cut out, and opposition defenders will be watching the scenes at the PSG training ground in both awe and fear.

The arrival of Messi has many believing that PSG will go onto dominate European football.
