Ex-Harambee Stars and Green Commandos legendary left winger Mike 'Computer' Wambani has passed.

PD Digital has learned that the former Musingu High School and Kakamega School attacker died on Saturday, July 2, following a failed hip replacement operation.

He is one of the finest players on Kakamega Shool's soccer team. He was said to be a defender's nightmare due to his stature and quick light feet, making him highly dangerous on the wings.

Wambani transferred from rivals Musingu to Kakamega School's Green Commandos. He joined the late Chris Makokha's squad, including stars like Julius Were, Job Musine, Milton Orwe, Reginald Asibwa, Mike Otieno, Late James Osiema, James Otina, and Isaac Kwoba, and late Hezron Osuka.

He was a member of the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association football team that won the national championship in Thika. The winger was instrumental in the Green Commandos' campaign, which opened with a goalless draw against Iterio High School. The team captain, the late Hezron Osuka, scored the game-winning goal for GC against Jamhuri High School in the second match.

Wambani was the hero when Makokha's team beat Kwale High School in the third match. The attacker scored the lone goal that secured Kakamega's participation in the National semifinals. Milton Orwe Obote scored the game-winning goal in the semifinals against Chewoyet, sending the formidable Green Commandos to the final and leaving their opponents distraught.

They met Iterio again in the final, this time led by legendary Mike Okoth Origi, and the match had to be decided in penalties. Green Comandos' penalties were scored by Wambani, Joash Okon'go, Patrick Namai, and Julius Were, while Iterio only managed two.

Wambani went on to join Kakamega-based Motcom, which was associated with Kakamega School and other Western Province-based institutions.

With 41 goals, he is the second all-time highest scorer at Motcom, along with Godfrey Osiema.

Only Aggrey Litali (58 goals) has more than Wambani. Motcom were in the league from the mid-1970s until 1995, when they were relegated for the last time.

Wambani also played for Harambee Stars.
