A section of athletics coaches have urged the Ministry of Sports to come up with a policy to address their welfare.

They said they lead a poor life despite doing a lot in the sports sector and called on the ministry to come to their rescue.

The coaches, Gabriel Kiptanui and Geoffrey Chumo said tacticians who are offering their services at the grassroots and small towns are the hardest hit as most of them live from hand-to-mouth.

Speaking separately to People Sport, the coaches said yesterday that the situation is dire and requires urgent intervention measures so that their welfare and terms are addressed going forward.

The duo stated that despite having produced prominent athletes, some of who have conquered the world, they find it difficult to put food on the table as well as meeting their family’s basic needs.

The tacticians called on the national government to come up with laws that ensure they are put on contract and permanent terms to improve their welfare.
