Morans on the hunt as they seek to sojourn Mali’s hopes in Afro basket championships
Kenya Moran's fate will be in their own hands as they seek to make history in the 2021 AfroBasket Championships currently happening in Kigali Arena, Rwanda
Sunday's AfroBasket 2021 action begins with two teams chasing their first win in the tournament when Kenya takes on Mali.
The winner of the game between Kenya & Mali will finish third in Group C - and will then play either Uganda or South Sudan who are poised to finish second in Group D on Tuesday 31st August 2021.
Morans must now beat an equally desperate Mali on Saturday to stand a chance of qualifying for the quarter-finals.
Kenya last played in 1993, with the majority of the current Morans players not born. Kenya lost 88-70 in their historic opener against Cote d’Ivoire in a Group “C” fixture at the magnificent Kigali Arena.
Morans small forward Tylor Ongwae posted the highest score in the championship thus far from 25 points in the tie, but it was not enough to stem the charge of the West African Elephants.
Morans must now beat an equally fraught Mali to stand a chance of qualifying for the quarter-finals.
The winners of each group will automatically qualify for the quarter-finals, while the runners-up and the third-place finishers will have a second chance to advance to the last eight by playing a qualifying round on Monday and Tuesday.
