Alex Kandie ended the national motocross championship in style winning the ninth and final round in a season that saw him miss three months of action due to injury.
Kandie won the MX125cc sweeping all heats Sunday to pick 60 points in what was an intense affair at the Jamhuri Racetrack.
His riding and poise was excellent despite a lot of competition by those behind him. Kandie was particularly excellent in his starts and corner speeds which gave him advantage.
Right behind him in the race was Neo Wahome who was runner-up in all classes. Wahome was also fast but not so much of a threat to the leader who was in a class of his own. In the same class, Peter Kamau emerged third, closing out the podium after piping Dekker Kihara by a tidy margin.
In the MX1 class, veteran Apollo Mbuki rolled the sleeves to win easily against five riders. Mbuki took all the heats in sensational style with his speedy moves breathtaking to watch as he collected 60 points.
Second in the class was Rolf Kihara who gave a good account of himself in all impressive heats. Rolf had two runners-up finishes and one third place thus finishing on 49 points. Ngugi Waweru was a close third with 47 points after a good battle on the track with Kihara.
The other exciting class of the day was the MX85cc which saw Tanav Choda win all heats to amass 60 points. Choda’s biggest asset was his gap at the first corner which ensured he had a healthy lead. His speed on the straight line was great as well. The runner-up in the 85 class was Atete Benzinge who amassed 49 points after posting two second places and one third place. Following in third and four points adrift was Natalie Cherono on 45 points.
