Mwamba RFC registered their first Kenya Cup win of the season with a 15-7 win over Ngong’ road-based Nondescripts RFC in match day six of the ongoing local rugby league staged at the RFUEA grounds.

Eliakim Kichoi who was making a return for “Kulabu” went over the whitewash for an unconverted try with Mwamba also adding a penalty after an infringement. 8-0 the score line with the game gaining momentum.

Mwamba would score their second try with fly-half, Tony Omondi, adding the extras for a 15-0 lead heading to the intervals.

Soon after the second half, Nondies managed to break through Mwamba’s defence to make their first converted try to reduce the deficit to 15-7.

The scoreline would stay the same, with Kulabu comfortably recording their first win of the season.

In other fixtures, varsity side Catholic Monks also ended their losing streak after beating Homeboyz 27-17 to pick a bonus point victory, keeping their hope of survival in the Kenya Cup alive.

Kenya Cup champions, Kabras RFC, cemented their dominance with an 88-3 victory over Strathmore Leos at Strathmore Grounds in Madaraka.

Ngong’ road-based side Kenya Harlequin’s perfect start to the season ended as they lost 9-3 to a spirited Black Blad as infringements cost them crucial points.

Kenya Cup heavyweights KCB maintained their impressive start to the season with a hard-fought 20-12 victory over Nakuru RFC at Nakuru Athletic Club.

After six rounds of the Kenya Cup campaign, Kabras RFC, KCB Rugby and Menengai Oilers stay unbeaten with the Sugarmen opening a one-point gap on top of the standings with 30 points.

The Sugarmen have picked six bonus points in this campaign, with familiar foes KCB Rugby dropping a point behind after failing to get a bonus point against Nakuru RFC. They come in second with 29 points.

Nakuru-based Menengai Oilers have climbed third on the log with 28 points after their sixth victory, with Kenya Harlequins coming in fourth with 24 points after losing a bonus point in their loss to Blak Blad.

Varsity side Blak Blad have 14 points following their second win of the season and come in position five.
