Mwendwa signing is top priority for Ingwe, states boss Shikanda
AFC Leopards are in the process of dangling the carrot to Kariobangi Sharks offensive midfielder Harrison Mwendwa in the ongoing mini transfer window.
Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda made the revelation, adding that the team’s technical bench has been chasing the Jamhuri High School alumnus for some time now.
“Yes, we have had interest in the player who is a very creative midfielder and I believe he will add the much needed impetus in the attack” said Shikanda of the player who previously played for Mathare United before joining Sharks.
Said Shikanda: “He is open to talks with AFC Leopards’ management but we cannot finalise his paperwork for now because of the vagaries of the covid-19. Hopefully, that will be done later.”
Mwendwa, a player who has the ability to initiate attacks from deep, has been the and fulcrum of Sharks and his talent cannot be ignored.
His gifts are not limited to club duties especially given that he has previously had trials with the national senior team, Harambee Stars.
In the meantime, Leopards have ruled out midfielder Duncan Otieno’s return to the den from Nkana FC since his contract with the Zambian club is yet to expire.
Shikanda said in as much as they would have liked Otieno to rejoin Leopards, it was not possible and that Leopards respects his contractual deal with the Zambian giants.
But Shikanda was quick to add that Otieno with whom they have shared what is best for Leopards has shown his desire to rejoin the team in future.
“Otieno is our former captain and is a diehard fan of Leopards and I cannot rule out the possibility of him donning the team’s colours in future after his contract with Nkana expires,” said Shikanda.
In the meantime, Shikanda has hinted that it will be an exercise in futility for any team to sign Ingwer players Robinson Kamura and Marvin Nabwire since they have running contracts with the team.
“Kamura and Nabwire are not for sale and any club will sign them at its own peril,” said Shikanda, adding that the team will make limited signings in the transfer window
“We have a strong squad and as such, I don’t think it is necessary to sign more players but what I can assure you that Nabwire and Kamura are not going anywhere,” explained Shikanda.
In another development, Shikanda said that Leopards is seeking for a second sponsor after Betsafe to meet the Sh 120 million budget for the whole season.
Shikanda said the club is seeking for a facilitator to supplement the Sh 48 million the club received from Betsafe, which means they need at least Sh 72 million to meet their financial obligations.
