Nakuru Amateur Boxing Club go to polls for new leaders

Nakuru Amateur Boxing Club go to polls this evening to elect new officials for another term of four years.

Top on the list to replace the incumbent chairman Isaac Mbote is the club’s former international boxer Martin Luttah who takes on Kahehu Nderitu in the race for the top seat.

If elected, Luttah promised that  his first objective is to ensure the club regain its lost glory as a club that used to have a number of players in the national boxing team.

“We have had lots of talents here and they are still here with us and the first strategy is to scout and mold talented boxers for us to have a consistence representation in the national team as was before,” Lutta told Standard Sports.

Isaac Mbote the Incumbent chairman will not defend the seat.

“I have done my part and it’s time for a new team to come and improve on what we never achieved,” said Mbote who’s also the Boxing Federation of Kenya first vice chairman and Nakuru county boss.

There are two factions led by Luttah and Nderitu but the latter has kept his line-up closer to his chest.

To deputize Lutta is Evans Karanja while Timothy George eyes the secretary general’s post while assistant secretary will be Phyllis Wanjeri. Jimmy Kioni will defend the treasurer’s seat with Peter Kiarie being the assistant treasurer.

Four committee members will also be elected and James Olie is keen to be one of them.

Yesterday, Luttah was confident of becoming the next boss owing to the support he has earlier offered the club throughout last season.

Lutta single-handedly sponsored Nakuru ABC in all the five legs of the league championships last season.

“That’s also the way to go this season, we’ll exactly do that for all our boxers in this city for us to regain our lost glory,” he said and promised to continue sponsoring boxers from Nakuru county.
