The Cricket Kenya Committee has finally approved the Cricket Kenya Constitution 2021 which was validated by stakeholders at a forum held on October 22,2021 at the Safari Park Hotel.

The committee chaired by Justice (Rtd) Joyce Aluoch has finalised the incorporation of the agreed amendments which came from the participants and now duly adopted a constitution for the cricket fraternity in the country after months of haggling and fallouts.

This now paves way for election of new officials at CK with all associated members expected to prove registration under Sports Act. Membership at CK has been divided into three categories.

The board will be required to appoint an Independent Elections Panel at least 60 days before the election date in accordance with Sports Registrar’s Regulations.

The normalisation committee shall give a 30 days notice for the elections of office bearers. The committee shall then hand over the functions of Cricket Kenya to the duly elected office holders within 14 days of the official announcement of the elected officials by the independent panel.

A crucial adopted change in structure will now include a Director of Women Cricket serving at the Executive Board. The board will have seven committees with the Standing Committees drawn from the Board.

Some of the Committees now in place include Audit and Compliance, Leagues and Competitions, Disciplinary and Ethics, Finance and Marketing and Women and Youth Cricket Committee.

Full members, associate members and honorary membershave single voting rights. Elections will be held on a four year cycle.

Former officials, including chairperson,vice-chairperson and treasurer will not be eligible to run for office in the forthcoming elections.

Read Article 23.7 of the constitution under the Heading Outgoing officials of Cricket Kenya: “Any person who was an elected or appointed official of the Board or Council arising from the last CK elections held on August 23,2015,preceding formation of the Cricket Kenya Normalization Committee, shall at the commencement of this Constitution not be eligible for any elective positions for a period of four years.”

The Constitution was approved on October 22,2021 by the Cricket Normalization Committee that was constituted by the Cabinet Secretary of Sports Amina Mohamed at the request of the International Cricket Council.
