Football Kenya Federation Premier League side Nzoia Sugar has begun the process of recruiting Salim Babu's successor.

Babu, who had an impressive run as the head coach for the Sugar Millers last term, is set to join Police FC as an assistant coach. His exit left the head coach position at Nzoia vacant, and the club is in the process of finding a replacement.

Qualifications

"The club currently competes in the Kenyan Premier League and plays their home games at Sudi Stadium. The club is currently looking to recruit a qualified head coach to take charge of the team as we prepare to compete in the upcoming 2023–24 league season.

"Applications from individuals who meet the minimum requirements stated below are welcome:

"Must have a coaching certificate 'CAF C' license and above, be a good communicator in both English and Kiswahili languages, and have at least five years' experience in football management with KPL teams.

"Has been either a head coach or assistant coach in the Kenyan Premier League in the last two years or more. Being a former player who has played in the Kenya Premier League or its equivalent is an added advantage.

"Has a record of successfully coaching teams in competitive leagues and a proven ability to nurture young talent to realize their potential and reach the peak of their careers. Must have good leadership skills and work under minimal supervision, age 33 or above," NzoiaSugar said in a statement.

By moving to Police, Babu is joining one of the clubs that has shown ambition and is setting high targets for the 2023–24 season. The Law Enforcers have already signed Kenneth Muguna, a former Kenya Premier League winner with Gor Mahia, and Tyson Otieno, a highly-rated midfielder who had been linked with K'Ogalo.

Expected departures

Babu's exit is a blow to Nzoia Sugar, who had hoped to maintain key individuals within the team and take another shot at the FKF Premier League title as well as the FKF Cup.

Last season, they finished third after being in the title race mix for some time. Apart from the coach's departure, key players are set to leave, with Kevin Juma already signing for Gor Mahia.

Bandari and AFC Leopards are the other top-tier clubs that have shown interest in players at Nzoia. Ingwe, particularly, have been linked with four players, while rumours have it that the Dockers are eyeing two.

The next coach that will take over at Nzoia Sugar will be under the spotlight, as people will want to see whether he will match or surpass the output registered in the last season.
