FKF PL, NSL clubs to observe moment of silence in honour of departed CDF Ogolla

FKF Premier League (FKF PL) clubs, National Super League sides, and other competitions under the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) are set to observe a minute of silence in honor of Chief of Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla and his colleagues.

General Ogolla tragically lost his life alongside nine other military officials in a helicopter crash in Sindar area, Kaben location, Tot division, in Elgeyo Marakwet county on Thursday.

CDF Ogolla's death

The crash occurred after the military visited troops deployed in the troubled West Pokot region to combat bandits and inspect ongoing school renovation work.

President William Ruto announced that the nation would observe a three-day period of mourning beginning Friday to honor the life and distinguished military career of the fallen general, who lost his life not only while in office but also while on active military duty.

FKF on their part announced on Friday that all FKF matches would hold a minute of silence in honor of the fallen soldiers. The federation also extended condolences to the families and friends of those affected by the crash.

"Kenyan football will join the rest of the country in paying tribute to Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Francis Ogolla and his colleagues from the Kenya Defence Forces who passed away in a plane crash on Thursday, April 18, 2024," the Federation announced.

"There will be a moment of silence in honor of the departed soldiers in all FKF matches. Football Kenya Federation wishes to extend its deepest sympathy and message of goodwill to the families and friends of those affected. May you find solace during these trying times," the Federation added.

CDF's Ogolla's burial

General Ogolla will be laid to rest at his home in Mor, Alego Usonga, Siaya County on Sunday, April 21, 2024.

His family confirmed the latest development, stating that General Ogolla had indicated in his will that he should be buried within 72 hours of his death.

The burial ceremony will be preceded by a heartfelt service at his local church in Nduru.

The family also announced that a committee had been established to collaborate with the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) committee to accord the general a dignified send-off.
