Angela Okutoyi won her first tournament this year albeit in a delayed Tennis Kenya calendar due to the effects of coronavirus pandemic.

The 15-year-old humbled Cynthia Cheruto 6-0/6-2 in the Seniors Challenge Series 1 yesterday to reign supreme at Nairobi Club.

The youngster was in control throughout the match that lasted an hour, dropping only two games in the process.

For large parts of the match, she put her opponent on the ropes with disciplined and cautious moves only making few unforced errors in between.

Her serve, movement and returns worked to her advantage as Cheruto fizzled completely.

The quick pace she led was especially visible in the opening set while in the latter stages of the second set she only fell twice.

Both ladies had almost smooth rides in the two day schedule with Angela Okutoyi getting a bye into the quarters while Cheruto beat Michelle Njunge 6-0/6-2.

In the semi-finals yesterday afternoon, Okutoyi beat Shakilla Varese 6-2/6-0 in another dominating fashion while Cheruto whizzed through Rosemary Asumwa 6-1/6-1 in what was considered a shocking result.

This is because Asumwa has been considered one of the new generation stars.
