The future of Divock Origi at Liverpool could be decided after the end of the season.

Speaking on Milele FM Sport, his father Mike Okoth, a former Kenya international, has put the Reds on high alert, saying as a family they will assess the situation and give necessary advice to the striker at the end of the current season.

“Origi is now an adult and he’s able to make his own decisions about his future. He has got ambitions that he is looking forward to. As a parent it is a matter that I may not want to delve into but it’s still early. We will wait to see how the season ends, the available options and he (Origi) will decide”, said Okoth.

The Belgium forward has found himself below the pecking order with competition for playtime coming from the deadly African duo of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. More so, the signing of Portuguese sensation Diogo Jota from Wolves last season also threw Origi’s future into doubt.

Liverpool has also signed Luiz Diaz in January and the Colombian has netted thrice since joining from Porto.

Origi who is turning 27 next month has only managed 71 minutes for Liverpool this term in five matches, coming from the bench in all of them and scoring twice against Wolverhampton and West Ham United respectively.

Okoth was asked whether it is time for his son to leave Liverpool and responded that it was up to Origi to weigh.

21 goals

“It is upon him now. My advisory role and time ended now he is old enough to determine what he wants. If he decides to stay, we will support him and if he will consider leaving Liverpool, we will help him”.

The former Lille player has featured in 105 occasions for the Merseyside team scoring 21 goals and assisting six in the English Premier League since making debut against Man United in 2015.
