Experienced Paul Gitau, who takes over as Kenya Pipeline women’s volleyball coach on a three-year contract, has promised to return the club to glory as national team captain Mercy Moim became the latest acquisition for Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) after signing a three-year deal.

Gitau, who was unveiled as the head coach at the Kenya Pipeline headquarters and given the free hand to choose the rest of his technical bench, takes over from Margaret Indakala who guided the team to a third-place finish in last season’s playoffs. Indakala’s contract expired at the end of last season.

“Coaching Kenya Pipeline has been a dream and I am ready for the challenge. This team will be at the top soon.

My first target is to win our first match then work our way from there. I will work with the available players as I know they can deliver.

“I have a policy of working only with players that are ready to learn every day. I will have no excuses to the team’s performance and the absence of captain Triza Atuka and Naomi Too will not come as one.

The two are good players but we will give them enough time to recover and when they get back to the team, it will be like signing new players,” said Gitau who has promised to have a female assistant coach.

The tactician will, however, have the services of Yvonne Sinaida who has been recovering from injury. She is back with the team and engaging in light training ahead of the season.

Before being appointed by the oil merchants, Gitau was in charge of Nakuru Club volleyball side playing in the national league.

Meanwhile,Moim joins middle blocker Edith Wisa who also joined KCB from Kenya Prisons, Sharon Chepchumba from Kenya Pipeline and Ugandan middle blocker Sharon Amito from Ndejje University.

KCB say they are determined to build a professional outfit that will conquer Africa like in the golden era which ended in 2006 when they won their last Africa Club Championship title.
