Parklands could be relegated this weekend

Defeats to Kenya Police and Sailors will see Parklands relegated from the Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) Men Premier League this weekend.

Against former champions Police and Chase Sailors Saturday and Sunday respectively, are the two fixtures Parklands play at the City Park Stadium.

The Victor Bogonko-coached side, bottom of the 10-team log with seven points, is going to the last four games of the season.

The relegation battle in the men’s league has narrowed down to three teams with Nairobi Sikh Union (nine) and Strathmore University (10) also in the mix.

Bogonko says his side have all to play for in the remaining hoping they will do something special, something they have failed to do for the entire season, well with the exception of the one game they have won in their last 14.

“We have to be brave this weekend, go out and try to create chances, an area that has been our undoing in the entire season.

“The boys know it has come down to the last four games. All the matches we have played don’t matter, it is about what we can do now,” Bogonko said.

After the fixtures, Parklands will thereafter take champions leaders Butali Sugar Warriors on November 23 before winding up their campaign with a match against Strathmore University on November 30.

Meanwhile, the battle for the second spot in the league is also expected to take centre stage this weekend as fourth-placed Police (25) clash with third-placed Greensharks (27) Sunday.

At the same time, league leaders Butali Sugar Warriors will need only a point to retain their title when they face second-placed Wazalendo Saturday.

Police Coach Mugambi says his troops need to up play well over the weekend as they have a chance of finishing second at the end of the season.

“We can win all our remaining matches. For the team, it will act as a consolation since we have not had a great season,” he said.

In the women’s top division, Sliders face off with Strathmore University Scorpions on Saturday while leaders Blazers clash with Kenyatta University on Sunday.

Similarly, relegation-threatened Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) will take on Sliders clash Sunday.                     - Amos Abuga
