Pinto to crack whip at K’Ogalo
Gor Mahia’s head coach Carlos Manuel Vaz Pinto is set to ring changes in the team as he plans to crack the whip on the record league champions in an attempt to save their season.
The reigning hampions have suffered a torrid run in the last six weeks that has seen them win a single match in five fixtures, suffering shock defeats to Nzoia Sugar, Posta Rangers and KCB.
K’Ogalo has also been rocked by allegations of match fixing that are yet to be confirmed, as it is believed that a notorious technical bench member was behind the business and was the link person between selected league players, referees and the foreign book makers.
The said official is believed to be living a lavish life that does not correspond to his monthly salary at the club and has his children attending some high end schools in Nairobi.
A senior club official said the Portuguese tactician is set to strip Kenneth Muguna off the arm band and rest a number of key players as he seeks to get the team’s league campaign back on track.
It’s believed that Pinto who at some moment last week contemplated leaving the job, was given powers to ring key changes on the technical bench and the playing unit to help them recover from their current slump and attempt to defend the title they won last season.
K’Ogalo who face league debutants Bidco United in their next fixture on Sunday are currently placed in an unfamiliar eighth position on 19 points from 11 matches.
“Expect shocking changes in the team, including the change of the captain and some technical bench members as well as the resting of some key players,” said the source who sought anonyminty.
He added: “There have been suspected sabotage from some players as a section have been entangled in the cold wars between the club chairman and the secretary.”
Club chairman Ambrose Rachier could not be reached for comment and Pinto did not confirm or deny.
