The athletics team that topped the continent in the African Cross Country Championships in Hammamet, Tunisia was treated to a heroic welcome at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport yesterday.


Their jetting back was characterized by song, dance and flowers for their indelible performance on Sunday in Tunisia where they stamped another routine Kenyan win in matters athletics.


The galant home boys and girls amassed a total of eight medals to top the standings and clinch the overall title with 4 golds, 3 silvers and one bronze medal.


Athletics Kenya Senior Vice president Paul Mutwi who was part of the contingent to receive the team showered the team with praises for the stellar show.


“I am proud of this team for what the have achieved in Tunisia.For sure the followed the instructions from the coaches for this accomplishment and we can only congratulate the athletes for hoisting our flag high once again,” Mutwi told People Sport.


Cynthia Chepngeno who grabbed a gold medal in senior women race has expressed her joy for following the continental success and now set her sights for World Cross Country Championships.


“I am so happy to have attained my goals in Tunisia.This is just the beginning and I know by the grace of God I will achieve more this year.My focus now is to make the cut in the Kenyan team for World Cross Country Championships in Serbia,”


Kenya will be going for another global glory again at the end of next month during the 45th edition of the World Cross Country Championships scheduled for Belgrade,Serbia.


Athletics Kenya has scheduled trials for the World Cross Country Championships this Saturday at the Kenya Prisons Training College in Ruiru from 8 AM.


More so, Kenya will be sending a team of athletes to Glasgow, Scotland for World Indoor Championship set for March 1-3.
