From boys to men as Koyonzo turn school tables against rugby high-fliers
With all sporting activities having been suspended indefinitely across the world Koyonzo Secondary and Mukumu Boy’s rugby 7s who battled for the Kakamega county Term One championships are not taking any chances keeping a close watch over their players through WhatsApp platform in preparations for both regional and national events.
Koyonzo’s head coach Eliud Okwemba who guided his side to overcome heavy weights St Peters before downing Mukumu 15-10 to win county title, revealed that before the suspension of the regional championships that were to be held in Busia, he had prepared his players and was looking forward for every good performance.
“Shortly after we were crowned county champions we did not go into celebrations but went back to the drawing board analyzing our performance and fixing the loose ends in our team.
“The players had adopted well for the new approach and focusing on the regional event before everything was suspended but we however deployed a way of monitoring them through social media.
“We are interacting and also sharing some tactical skills through social media in one way of ensuring that every individual player remains fit and in good frame of mind before we resume our programmes.
“Things are not rosy especially at the regional and national levels where other new teams that we don’t know well are also coming to compete so it requires some good preparations,” he said.
His Mukumu Boys’ counterpart Charles Anzaya revealing that riding on under dogs’ tag has helped them so much as it has motivated his players to understand what is expected out of them.
