Kabras maintained their one-point lead over second-placed KCB after thrashing Mwamba 56-13 in Kakamega in the Kenya Cup last weekend.

The top two teams are seeking a direct ticket to the playoff semi-final and KCB also beat fast-fading Kenya Harlequin 29-3 to keep pressure on the log leaders who have 60 points, just one head of them.

With three rounds of the regular season to go, a fight for the top six that comes with qualification to the playoff is intense with third-placed Homeboyz (54 points), Impala in fourth with 41 points, Menengai Oilers in fifth (36 points), sixth-placed Nakuru (33 points) all pushing to stay there while Mwamba, in seventh with 29 points, are hoping to sneak in.

Kabras have no such troubles and completed the double over Mwamba after beating them 43-6 in the first leg while KCB are also keen to finish in the top two and qualify directly to the playoff semi-final although Homeboyz are breathing down their necks.

The bankers will have to be at their best in their next meeting before February 29 when they will take on Homeboyz in what could be a match that decides who finishes second.

As KCB condemned Quins to a second straight loss, Homeboyz kept up the chase after shocking Nakuru 47-5 at Jamhuri grounds while Impala managed an away losing bonus to remain fourth on the log after being upset 20-17 by Blak Blad.

Menengai Oilers recorded a 43-17 win over Western Bulls and are hoping to stay there to taste the playoffs for the first time.
