Shikanda denies claims AFC Leopards are in the market for a new coach
AFC Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda has refuted claims that the club is courting a foreigner to be head coach.
Reports last week had indicated that Czechoslovakian national Tomas Trucha formerly of Botswana top tier side Township Rollers was to take over the mantle from current tactician Anthony “Modo” Kimani.
There was also word that the club’s sponsor that Kimani was set to undergo a football management course abroad in coming days while temporarily deputising the European.
This information has, however, been dismissed by the club as false. Dr Shikanda who spoke recently in a radio interview warned fans not to get hoodwinked by any unofficial news hence creating panic.
“First off, whatever is being said out there about a new coach coming to replace Kimani is farfetched.
He is still our coach until otherwise confirmed and in any case we only communicate any information through our official channels,” stated the Ingwe boss.
“All I know is that this club is a work in progress and as such we are trying to strengthen it as we move along.
Even with our players we will only unveil at the right time alongside any technical new faces, that is our position.”
At the same time, Dr Shikanda has urged the club faithful to continue supporting the team as the new season nears.
“We have to be faithful and loyal to our product no matter what. AFC Leopards will be fighting for the title this time round so people should be on the lookout because we have a good team.”
