Kenya Simbas head coach Paul Odera is confident the national 15s outfit will deliver the maiden Rugby World Cup (RWC) maiden cut in Marseille, France early next month after finalizing their international tune-up matches with an emphatic 41-24 win over the Eastern Province Elephants at the RFUEA grounds on Saturday.

“Our mental strength is finally coming together and we are in a good place because we have got a big depth.

“Players have proved they are up to the challenge through the Currie Cup first division and are now raring to travel to France and bring back the ticket because this is the year Kenya qualifies for the World Cup,” Odera said. Kenya’s athleticism and match fitness with few injuries gave the visiting Elephants a challenge they will live to tell. In an upsetting second half, they unwillingly surrendered a 24-13 lead to the hosts who made a few substitutions to roar back with 28 unanswered points.

Tournament director from South Africa Yusuf Jackson positively exclaimed the match attendance at the match ground.

The competition is headed for the semifinals this Friday where the Elephants will play the Eagles in their Cup semifinals while the Simbas rest for a week before returning to a camp that will lead to France duels.

The Africa Rugby Cup will double up as the run-through competition that will aid the organizing committee take notes to ensure smooth delivery of the 2023France Rugby World Cup.
