National Super League leaders Kibera Black Stars FC are awaiting a tasty encounter on Monday when they face third-placed Mara Sugar FC at Camp Toyoyo.

The Slum Boys who have had a good start in the 2022/23 season are currently on nine points from four matches. In their last match against Vihiga United, they won 1-0 away courtesy of Brian Omondi’s effort in the 44th minute in a match played at Mumias Complex Wednesday.

This is by far Black Stars’ strongest start in the campaign and should therefore offer the Sugar Men from the South Rift a real test.

In their last two encounters, however, both teams tied 1-1 in the home and away legs. Mara on six points are yet to concede a goal albeit having played two matches less than their next opponents.

Conceded twice

On-form Black Stars on their part have a five-goal difference having conceded twice and scored five.

In another enticing encounter, this weekend, Coastal Heroes FC and Naivas FC meet at Mbaraki Sports Club. The pair are separated by one point in the standings though the latter is yet to play one match.

Heroes who are fifth on the log have endured a mixed run in their campaign.

Upset opponents

The team has played three matches with one goal difference. In their last duel which ended up being abandoned on Wednesday, Heroes lost 2-0 to Mwatate United.

As for fifth-placed Naivas, a rest at midweek meant they will have two matches in hand when they go into the next match.

With three points in the bag, the Retailers will be looking to upset their opponents in their backyard to get their momentum going and will most likely focus on the defensive lapses of Heroes who have already conceded four goals.

In their recent meetings, Naivas holds an advantage with the first leg encounter earlier in the season going 3-2 and the second leg ending 2-0 to them again.

Meanwhile, high-flying Shabana FC travel to Mumias Complex Sunday for a date with tenth-placed Vihiga United. Tore Bobe who are on a three-match winning run are expected to have an advantage on paper.

and would be happy to see its second place in the log solidified or even improved. In their last encounter this week, Shabana won 1-0 away to Mombasa Elite courtesy of a Dennis Simiyu lone effort. The team which is famed for its strong defence is yet to concede in three meetings so far. Shabana hold a 2-0 advantage in their recent head-to-head records with both meetings seeing the Gusii-based side take full points.

In other matches lined up, Migori Youth who are fourth on the log, host SS Assad at Gusii Stadium. Migori who recently won 2-1 against struggling Silibwet Leons will be hoping the seventh-placed visitors do not pose threat. Migori are on four points with Assad on three points and in their last two meetings, Assad won once and tied in the returning match. In another duel, Gusii FC will be up against Mombasa Elite at home with Elite who are yet to post a win in what will be a plus if they pull a victory in Gusii.
