Snow joins growing calls by local professionals for build-up tournaments

Muthaiga Golf Club’s Greg Snow believes he was prepared better for the Magical Kenya Open in March than he is now and having some form of competition would help get him back in crisp form ahead of the November 12-15 event.

It has been six months of no action and as the competition nears, majority of the local professional players who will represent the country at the Open have underscored the importance of getting to play competitively before taking part in the Open, which will once again be running as a European Tour event for the second time.

“In March I was really playing well and had won five of the 11 Safari Tour series. I was better prepared for the Open then.

The last six months of non activity have forced me to just work on my golf at my home course and my personal fitness levels, but I need to play competitively to gauge my form now,” Snow told People Sport.

He added: “Playing a few tournaments will get us back in competition mode.

There’s yet to be confirmation of when the Safari Tour will begin, but having a few legs before November will help us get in shape.”

The 30-year old is hoping to put his 2019 woes behind and put in a good performance in this year’s event.

Snow topped the Safari Tour in 2019 but shot a combined 3-over par 145 at the Open to miss cut.

In the 2020 qualifying Tour that concluded in February, the Muthaiga professional finished third behind Dismas Indiza and Simon Ngige who finished first and second respectively.
