- Sofapaka president Elly Kalekwa on Saturday told People Daily that Shikanda's utterances were disrespectful and uncalled for and demanded an immediate apology.
Former Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Sofapaka is demanding an apology from AFC Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda for demeaning the team, despite all the accolades that the 2009 league winners enjoy.
Sofapaka president Elly Kalekwa on Saturday told People Daily that Shikanda's utterances were disrespectful and uncalled for and demanded an immediate apology.
Shikanda made the remarks during a live radio show with a local station on Saturday afternoon saying: "Without Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, there is no football in Kenya. I just know KCB as a bank and not a football team and I have never known a team calling itself Sofapaka.
"This is lack of respect and we demand immediate apology from AFC Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda.
He should know that Sofapaka is in the world history books as one of the teams that won the main league on it's debut and if he were to be given the team to run for even two months he may end up even selling his grand father's land," Kalekwa said.
He added; "All the teams playing in the top flight league need to be respected.
When AFC Leopards was relegated did the league stop? It is not fair to talk ill of Sofapaka because even since we joined the top flight league we have represented the country at the continental competitions more than AFC Leopards and we even enjoy a better head-to-head record over them,"
Kalekwa also urged Shikanda to honour their deal on Rwandese defender Soter Kayumba who joined AFC Leopards from Sofapaka on a loan deal that was to see Sofapaka pocket Sh 700,000, but the money is yet to be paid.
